Meeting at 9:00am in room 101; led by David Hoeppner.
Currently, the Life and Times class is continuing its study of The History of Christianity. We watch a DVD produced by the Great Courses for about 30 minutes and engage in lively discussion. We are currently on lesson 21 of 36 in this study. The Lesson this Sunday is on The Church’s Encounter with Modern Learning. The lecturer is Dr. Molly Worthen, She is an Assistant Professor of History at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She received her B.A. in History as well as her M.A., M.Phil., and Ph.D. in Religious Studies from Yale University. Dr. Worthen taught briefly at the University of Toronto before joining the faculty at UNC in 2012. The class is led by David Hoeppner and we try to engage in lively discussions and tie the lesson to current events and the evolution of the Christian Church. Our current study has been dealing with Christian values and how it has evolved in recent history and is still evolving. You are welcome to join us.

Wesleyan Class
Meeting at 9:00am in the parlor; led by Jay Vestal. This group focuses on book studies, with a new book every few weeks.
Currently, we are wandering the Via Francigena, the pilgrims' pathway from Canterbury to Rome. Our guide will be the best-selling author Timothy Egan, who's new book, "A Pilgrimage to Eternity" is generating reviews like the one below. Each week we will cover a couple of chapters in his journey and consider what he writes about in our own pilgrimages of faith.
A thrilling journey, a family story, and a revealing history, A Pilgrimage to Eternity looks for our future in its search for God.
For more information, check out the latest issue of the Connection.

Weekdays
Wednesday morning study group
Meeting Wednesday mornings (9:30am in the parlor) from September through May; led by Evelyn Kasworm.
Our current study is .”Bible Women: All Their Words and Why They Matter” by Lindsay Hardin Freeman. In this groundbreaking book, Freeman identifies every woman who speaks in the Bible, providing their words, context, and historical background. Readers will hear the only conversation in the Bible between a mother and daughter (and it’s not pretty), the words of a woman who eats her own child, and the triumphant exclamation of a woman telling the world about the risen Christ. Questions at the end of each chapter encourage individual or small group reflection about what readers might learn from each of these women and how God is speaking through them. God’s sacred circle included mothers, grandmothers, warriors, prophets, prostitutes, and murderers―and readers who take in Bible Women will be changed for the better because of it.
